Robert K. SemansROBERT K. SEMANS (oil portrait).  Robert is a native Californian. He studied at San Jose State University with Maynard Stewart, a highly regarded painter and instructor in the classical tradition.  He then studied in Florence, Italy for two more years. Robert enjoys painting landscapes and still lifes, but his greatest love is portraits. He has done portraits of Governor Gray Davis, actor Robert Waite (The Waltons), and a host of pioneers in technology from the Silicon Valley.  He is a  member of the Portola Art Gallery in Menlo Park, CA, the California Art Club, and the Portrait Society of America and Oil Painters of America.  His paintings may be viewed at http://www.robertksemans.com

March 27 Steve CurlSTEVE CURL (watercolor landscape).  Steve teaches watercolor painting at the Pacific Art League of Palo Alto.  He is a member of the Portola Art Gallery, 75 Arbor (Allied Arts complex), Menlo Park.  He graduated from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and minors in Art and Journalism.  He furthered his Fine Art Education at the San Francisco Academy of Art College, the Taos Institute of the Arts, and the Atlin Art Center - Atlin, B.C. April 24 Kevyn WarnockKEVYN WARNOCK (critiques). Kevyn will do a critique of members' paintings.  Kevyn is an accomplished plein air landscape painter who studied art at the University of Utah and later at the College of San Mateo under Adam Schnitzer and Marguerite Fletcher (a member of 1870 Studios on Ralston Avenue in Belmont, CA).  Her paintings may be viewed at http://www.kevynwarnock.com.

May 22 Guy MagallanesGUY MAGALLANES (watercolor floral). Guy belongs to the Gallery 2611, at 2611 Broadway, Redwood City, CA.  He has a varied background in many art forms such as theater sets, fabric design, and magazine layout, but his present passion is watercolor.  Hyper-Realism is his style, enhancing abstract shapes with exaggerated color.  He teaches weekly at the Redwood City Senior Center and the Filoli Center, and has an annual five-day workshop at Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove.  His paintings may be viewed at http://www.guymagallanes.com
June 26 Mary K. StahlMARY K. STAHL (pastel).  Mary records her unique interpretation of the beautiful California landscape or colorful still life arrangement using soft pastels, oil paints or acrylics.  She usually employs the alla prima technique of painting to achieve her final result in one session, and she primarily paints directly from life.  She received her art education at College in West Virginia, and more recently studied locally with Brigitte Curt, Jim Smyth, and Van Waldron. August 28 June LevinJUNE LEVIN (abstract watercolor or collage).  June was raised in San Mateo County and says she was lucky to be enriched by its golden hills and dramatic coastline.  Principally a representational artist, she focuses on the California landscape in vivid oil, water media and pastel.  When she isn’t painting plein air, she is at her studio at 1870 Ralston Avenue, Belmont, CA.  Her paintings may be viewed at http://www.junelevin.com.
September 25 Tomiko BaileyTOMIKO BAILEY (oil plein air).  Tomiko was raised in Japan where she began painting as a child.  She moved to San Francisco in her 20s and studied art at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, the California Academy of Painters, and the College of San Mateo.  It is exciting for her to capture a fresh impression and to depict as much as possible in a few hours.  She loves the intense California sunlight, which accentuates earth tones.  Her paintings may be viewed at http://www.tomikobailey.com.
October 23 Ice ArchJOE DECKER (photography). Joe is a nature photographer living in San Jose, CA. His images of the Western United States, Iceland and the Arctic have won international recognition via awards by the Nature’s Best Foundation and the North American Nature Photography Association. In 2008, Decker was awarded an artist residency to photograph the Petrified Forest National Park by the U.S. Department. of the Interior. His work may be viewed at http://www.rockslidephoto.com.
